Magic mirror entertains the younger generation
Clarks is a UK Based and international shoe manufacturer and retailer founded in 1825 with 1400 stores across the world.
the challenge
Clarks is a successful British brand synonymous with quality and expertise. In 2013 we were challenged by the company to find a way of providing digital entertainment to kids in a trial store in Exeter.
Our Approach
Our solution was a Magic Mirror, a display with a special surface coating that allows it to be a mirror as well as presenting content alongside the natural reflection.
We designed an interactive solution based on the Clarks cartoon characters, Jack and Daisy. Taking the 3d character models, we transformed them into fully rigged characters and linked them to a Kinect motion sensor so that when a child walked in front of the ‘mirror’ either Jack or Daisy appears in the reflection and mimics the child’s actions. This not only provides entertainment for the kids but gives staff a sneaky way to get their younger customers to try out the footwear.
We also installed two 42” screens at key points to show a range of ambient brand messaging and videos. Store staff are able to select the playlist of content appropriate for the customer demographic through the use of a simple keypad.
The Outcome
The children loved the interactive solution which ran in-store for a 6 month trial period.
