'Lift and Learn', digital photo-booths and custom LED displays for a beauty brand like no other
Started in 1994 by renowned make-up artist and fashion photographer François Nars, NARS has grown from a small boutique label selling a 12-product line in New York’s iconic Barney’s department store, to one of the biggest brands in the industry.
In 2014, the company asked Pixel for a large format installation that would grab shoppers’ attention in its often-hectic cosmetics department at Selfridges West 1, London.
Working with specialists in retail furniture we installed an 80” Panasonic commercial LCD display in portrait. This wall-mounted video monolith forms part of a four-sided wraparound for one of the store’s ornate columns. The screens show ambient brand videos that our content studio optimised for use on this specific setup. The display setup allows the single large form factor display to work as a single canvas or be split into multiple frames to provide unique content per frame, depending on the campaign requirements.
From there we have installed a number of solutions across more than 25 department store concessions in the UK and Ireland. These concessions are found in stores including Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, John Lewis, Brown Thomas and Fenwicks. Installed across these sites are a glut of solutions ranging from single 40″ screens to 80″ and 1×4 videowalls. In Covent Garden, we created a bespoke interactive photo booth where shoppers can capture and share photos post-makeover or after sampling a certain product. A ‘lift and learn’ installation allows customers to have key product information at their fingers, especially useful during busy periods where sales staff are already engaged.
At their Sloane Square store, we designed and installed a custom LED display to run the length of a staircase, attracting attention due to its street-facing aspect.
