NHS Digital
Internal staff communications undergo digital transformation for NHS Digital offices.

NHS Digital are the Health and Social Care Information Centre responsible for digital comms within the NHS, including development and implementation of the NHS App, NHSmail and the NHS website.
Their aim is to support NHS staff at work, help patients get the best care, and use the nation's health data to drive research and transform services.
the challenge
NHS Digital’s main goal was to reflect their digital-first approach throughout their offices. By doing so it would provide them with the ability to automate broadcasting of staff communications through use of engaging and informative digital messaging in the areas staff often dwell and pass through.
Our Approach
NHS Digital came onboard in 2020. Our collaboration was to assist with the implementation and long-term support of over 70 Philips 43" D-Line displays.

After an in-depth consultation period, and post-pandemic, the rollout commenced, with digital screens being installed in areas of high footfall and longer dwell times, such as receptions, canteens, restaurants, lift waiting areas and meeting rooms.

NHS Digital were keen to have full control over the content, with strong consideration given to the security of the infrastructure, as well as its content management and data integration functionality. Because of this, Pixel provided a dedicated server solution, running SCALA Content Manager software, which allows for the remote control, content scheduling, distribution, playback and management of the displays. This would allow NHS Digital to manage their own users, customise, automate and schedule content, as well the capability to securely develop integrations with other NHS data streams. We provided full training on the SCALA software to ensure the team were well versed in using the system from day one.

Additionally, we provided a psychologically backed creative display template, in a ‘ticker’ style format, that was fully customisable and allowed any authorised user to update the content to ensure it was always relevant and engaging for staff.
The Outcome
We continue to work with NHS Digital to deliver this digital-first communication approach as they open new offices throughout the UK.
We’re thrilled to continue our relationship as they go on to work on some of the biggest challenges facing the health and care system and proud to support them with our monitoring and support service.
