Royal Marsden is a prestigious healthcare brand renowned for its world-class medical expertise, personalised care, state-of-the-art facilities and innovative treatments.

the challenge

Pixel were approached by Royal Marsden after a recommendation from an existing NHS client. The aim of the project for this renowned Health Care provider was to provide waiting room and dwell zone displays that would enhance the patient experience by improving communication, reducing stress, and increasing engagement while in the various waiting areas around the campus.

Our Approach

The key element of the project was to replace the traditional white board system with a digital display that could update patients in the waiting area in real time by detailing the date, time, doctors on duty and team lead. The first location to receive this was the Cavendish Health Care Centre, which was undergoing a refurbishment, allowing us to seamlessly integrate the solutions and associated infrastructure as the refurbishment was carried out. We installed Iiyama displays of various sizes suited to each location to replace the white boards. Two displays were installed in the main waiting room and 2 in the radiology waiting area. Unique mirrored digital displays were used in the main waiting areas to blend with the high quality interiors.

A crucial part of the project was the provision of a digital template, which Pixel designed and produced, allowing staff on site to edit specific text fields depending on the information required to be displayed. The template runs in a playlist which also features interspersed messaging and key calendar events, all managed through the SCALA software platform.

The Outcome

The installations were completed in March 2021, with Pixel continuing to provide training of how to use the system and manage templates for new starters, showing them how to edit, upload and schedule to allow daily process to continue without disruption.
