Salon concept integrates digital into the customer experience
Decléor sits on a rich professional heritage focused on the power of using facial and body treatments to maximise skincare.
the challenge
In 2018, Decleor asked us to help them update the traditional salon experience through the integration of various digital solutions including a magic mirror, to allow for the recording of makeover sessions, and a system to provide staff with control over the ambience of the spa treatment room.
Our Approach
The magic mirror required a totally bespoke setup. We worked with the interior design contractor to specify an appropriate mirror surface, which included a pinhole to allow our camera a view of the customer. The camera was connected to a controller, which also provided the touch user interface displayed on a small screen hidden behind the mirror. This was coupled with a capacitive touch sensor applied to the rear of the mirror glass to provide a seamless interactive surface. We created a software application to allow the stylist or customer to simply turn-on and pause recording of the session. Once complete, the recording could be sent to the customer’s private email address for subsequent viewing and sharing.
The treatment room was specified with three distinct digital elements, which worked in unison to provide a variety of effects. Firstly, an ultra short throw projector was installed, sending its image to the ceiling of the room. A set of LED colour changing lights were also installed in key areas of the room. The staff were provided with a handheld tablet which hosted a simple user interface, allowing them to change the theme of the ceiling projection, lighting and audio at the push of a button.
The Outcome
The end result was a salon with several unique digital elements tastefully integrated to enhance the experience but not dictate it. All assets were monitored and maintained by our remote support desk and on-site engineering teams, allowing the staff to concentrate on delivering their best in salon customer experience.
