Home / Work - Itsu

With over 70 stores in its UK estate, quick service restaurant chain Itsu has worked with Pixel Inspiration for over a decade to create a reliable, scalable digital solution that blends visual impact with operational efficiency.
What we did
We identified and implemented an approach based on a multi screen menu board with a redundant pair of multi-output media players, that laid the foundation for a dynamic and engaging digital menu system across all Itsu locations.
How we did it
Most Itsu stores utilise a 3 x 1 landscape display arrangement, which is ideal for menu visibility, providing plenty of space for Itsu’s extensive menu. To ensure consistent performance in high traffic, wide temperature environments, we selected NEC V series displays due to their superior thermal management, durability and overall value.
To power the digital menu boards with eye-catching creative content and to allow for perfect synchronisation across the solution, we installed triple output media players. A secondary media player was added and configured to automatically take over playback in case the primary player failed at any particular location. On detection of a problem, the secondary player instructs all of the displays to switch their inputs, providing totally automated recovery and 100% uptime of menu content.
For the initial menu implementation, our creative services and development teams coded and configured assets, so that digital menu board content can be easily managed internally by Itsu, without having to re-render and upload new video files for animated assets. A particularly good example of the approach was the animation of the famous Itsu butterfly, which could be configured through simple X,Y coordinates to fly around the menu, landing on specific locations to highlight promotions
The technology
-
Video wall based menu solution
-
Triple and quad output media players
-
Automated failover solution with proactive automated input switching
-
Animated elements through code requires no re-rendering of video assets
What now?
The network has been in place for over 10 years, and we continue to provide 24/7 managed services, including remote monitoring and on-site support tailored to each store's needs.
Since the original project, we’ve also implemented digital window display totems across a large portion of the Itsu estate, increasing customer attention and store footfall.
