Transparent, textured and kinetic LED technologies dominated the conversation at Integrated Systems Europe 2026 earlier this month, signalling a shift towards digital signage technology that blends more naturally into physical spaces, and a greater emphasis on the role of creative content.
Pixel Inspiration was out in force, with teams from the UK, France and Belgium in Barcelona. Here are a few of the most impactful solutions that caught their attention:
Transparent LED continued its rapid evolution, with solutions from Nexnovo and Absen among the most refined on the show floor, with large-scale formats delivering a near-holographic effect.
For some of the team, these textured LED solutions were the standout category, including ROE Visual’s laminated finishes that saw the screens disappear into their surroundings when idle, then transform into dynamic digital canvases when content is activated. With finishes ranging from concrete to wood and fully bespoke options, these types of displays are an innovative way to elevate architectural and interior design while creating a truly lasting impression.
Stealth when static, spectacular when active
This theme continued with kinetic LED from Spectrum. The matrix of panels physically extends and retracts in response to touch or content cues, creating depth and focus without the noise typically associated with mechanical systems. For retail and corporate environments, it’s a compelling way to guide attention and create a memorable moment.
From a hardware perspective, the ultra-slim dual-sided LED from LianTronics also turned some heads. Serviceable from both sides and ideal for window-facing applications, it positions itself as a genuine challenger to traditional LCD in high-impact environments.
But, it was the window film applications that really stood out to us – maintaining the clean, open feel of glass while allowing visuals to float effortlessly in space. The ability to layer motion content over real-world sightlines creates a striking visual without adding physical bulk — a balance of impact and subtlety that is increasingly in demand.
Sustainability was another strong narrative this year. E-paper solutions (particularly from our partners Samsung and Dynascan) showed how low-energy, lightweight displays are becoming a viable alternative for many use cases, offering excellent clarity with significantly improved energy credentials.
Across all of our favourite projects, one message was clear: creative content is the differentiator. Transparent and textured displays demand creative that uses soft edges, negative space and transparency to achieve that true “floating” effect. Doing this well can make the illusion pop, or flop!
ISE 2026 proved to us that the future of digital signage is about finding the harmony between technology, space and storytelling. Roll on ISE 2027!
