Caffé Nero

Delivering premium digital menu boards across airports, travel and retail hubs worldwide

With a growing international estate spanning airports, railway stations, shopping centres and high street locations, European coffeehouse Caffè Nero needed to update its existing digital signage network to one that would deliver a consistently high-quality visual experience while simplifying network management and support.

What we did

Pixel Inspiration designed a scalable digital bay header software and hardware solution that is rolling out nationally. Providing full-service support and ongoing management, we worked with the retailer throughout the entire design and implementation process.

How we did it

Image quality was a critical requirement throughout the project, so Pixel worked closely with the Caffé Nero team to evaluate different display technologies, screen sizes and LCD panel types. Demonstration units and side-by-side comparisons were provided to allow the client to make an informed choice, ensuring the final specification met their expectations.

Samsung 43-inch QMC displays were selected for their balance of performance, reliability and cost efficiency. IPS (in-plane switching) panel technology was chosen specifically for its wide viewing angles, ensuring menu content remains clear, consistent and legible from multiple customer viewpoints within busy retail and travel environments.

During the migration phase, Pixel engineers attended airport and high street sites to update the  existing menu board configurations and pair them with the CMS and remote management services. Our development team also created the integrations necessary to allow localised and regional pricing. In under eight weeks, every display across the network was configured and optimised using an agreed set of picture settings. This process ensured that content appears consistently across every location, regardless of site type or geographic location.

Alongside digital menu boards, front-of-house and window-based promotional displays were installed in selected locations.

Menu board templates and promotional content assets, based on  existing brand collateral, were developed by Pixel's in-house creative services team.

Pixel's logistics and engineering teams managed the additional operational requirements associated with airside access and airport compliance, enabling installations to be completed efficiently across multiple travel locations.

The technology
  • Samsung professional displays with IPS panel technology.

  • Samsung Tizen System-on-Chip platform, eliminating the need for external media players.

  • DISE CMS for centralised content management and campaign planning

  • Custom data integration for live and localised pricing

  • Samsung MagicINFO for remote monitoring, device management and firmware updates.

What now?

This updated digital media network has rolled out in Caffè Nero locations across the UK, Ireland, Poland, Sweden and the United States.

Caffè Nero benefits from a consistent customer experience, simplified digital network management and Pixel’s 24/7 support and maintenance service.
