Relay

A seamless LED signage experience for a leading travel retail brand

Relay, part of the Lagardère portfolio, wanted its Heathrow store to deliver a more consistent and engaging digital experience across a range of architectural touchpoints. The completed solution uses direct-view LED throughout, giving the store a cohesive visual language while helping branded content stand out in a busy airport environment.

What we did

Pixel Inspiration designed and installed a complete LED digital signage package across the store. The deployment included a 10-metre display strip above the refrigerated cabinets, four square screens above the self-checkout area, four portrait-format pillars and two portrait displays at the shopfront.

How we did it

The original brief called for an LCD-based signage package. We instead proposed the use of direct-view LED across the site, creating consistency of image quality and enabling a closer integration with the store’s varied architectural features, helping deliver a more unified customer experience.

Working collaboratively with the main contractors, we installed GOB (glue on board, a  protective layer) LED displays with a 1.5 mm pixel pitch, driven by multi-output Advantech media players and Novastar control systems.

As is often the case in retail projects, we also responded quickly to changes on site. The original design specified three screens above the self-checkout area, but the position of the checkout indicators meant that configuration would not fit as-built. To cater for this, we reduced each screen’s dimensions (which the modular design of LED allows for) and adapted the content to suit, preserving the impact of the installation without disrupting the surrounding store design.

The technology
  • 10 metre direct-view LED display header above chillers

  • Four square displays above the self-checkout area

  • Four portrait LED pillars

  • Two portrait LED shopfront displays

  • All displays protected by a factory appliedGOB layer

  • Advantech multi-output media players

  • Nova control systems

  • Dise content management platform

What now?

The Lagardère marketing team can now upload, manage and schedule content for the store directly through the Dise CMS. This gives the brand day-to-day control of its messaging while the integrated LED display network provides a consistent, high-impact digital presentation across the Heathrow store.
