Home / Work - Lloyds Banking Group Heritage

Lloyds Banking Group commissioned Pixel Inspiration to create a visually engaging experience that would showcase the Group’s heritage and bring its defining milestones to life. Designed primarily for senior stakeholders and investors visiting its head-office locations, the installation needed to communicate how the organisation and its constituent brands helped shape British banking — including the pioneering role of Bank of Scotland and the Group’s contribution to greater inclusion in the workplace.
The initial brief explored physical artefacts, lift-and-learn interactions, motion detection and other triggered experiences. It was deliberately broad, giving Pixel the opportunity to streamline the options and develop a concept that could operate at scale while remaining engaging, consistent and easy to evolve.
What we did
Pixel developed a flexible digital heritage solution for three key locations: Old Broad Street in London, Port Hamilton in Scotland and Colmore Row in Birmingham. The experience was designed to adapt to the architecture of each space while maintaining a consistent visual identity and content journey across the estate.
A scalable content framework was central to the proposal. New stories can be produced, scheduled and deployed without rebuilding physical exhibits or reformatting content for every location, making the experience easier to maintain and future-proof as the Group’s heritage narrative develops.
How we did it
Early creative concepts took inspiration from museum and gallery environments, combining a sense of permanence with immersive digital storytelling. Pixel evaluated three approaches — a holocube, LCD spatial screens and an LED video wall recessed into timber cladding — against the requirements for impact, flexibility, lead time and cost.
A fully physical artefact-led approach was discounted because every new story would require a bespoke manufactured object. Instead, Lloyds Banking Group selected a digital-led installation that combines the original LED video wall, extended over the audiences’ heads in a wraparound style, to re-create the tunnel-like environment at Old Broad Street. This approach preserves a consistent experience across the estate while responding sensitively to each location.
The finished concept uses a fan-based holographic display mounted on a plinth to reinforce the museum aesthetic, enabling mid-air visualisation of 3d rendered objects. Integrated movement sensors support two functions: measuring engagement for reporting and triggering the next stage of the content journey as a visitor approaches. Centrally controlled lighting also changes with the on-screen story, with colour, movement and pulsing effects managed through the content script and updated remotely for seasonal campaigns.
The technology
-
Fine-pitch GOB LED display
-
Holographic LED fan display presented on a museum-style plinth, content synchronised to the LED wall
-
Integrated movement sensors for audience measurement and proximity-triggered content
-
Centrally controlled LED lighting, synchronised with the content journey
-
Remote content and lighting updates to support new stories and seasonal campaigns
What now?
The modular platform gives Lloyds Banking Group a consistent, estate-wide heritage experience that can continue to grow. New stories, campaigns and visual treatments can be introduced remotely, allowing the installation to remain relevant while preserving a coherent experience across all three locations.
