Home / Work - The Perfume Shop

One of the UK’s largest fragrance retailers, The Perfume Shop wanted to improve the visibility and flexibility of merchandising across its fragrance brands in-store, while making better use of its retail space.
The Perfume Shop’s existing bay headers relied on static branding and printed lightbox graphics, which were costly and time-consuming to update whenever brands, merchandising plans or promotional campaigns changed.
What we did
Pixel Inspiration designed a scalable digital bay header software and hardware solution that is rolling out nationally. Providing full-service support and ongoing management, we worked with the retailer throughout the entire design and implementation process.
How we did it
While The Perfume Shop’s store layouts are broadly consistent, every location has a unique fragrance counter configuration, making a traditional digital signage approach difficult and expensive to scale.
Working with project partner weareSDI, we designed a digital bay header system that could replace the existing static signage with a flexible solution that allows branding and messaging to be updated instantly. This creates new opportunities for seasonal campaigns and promotional activity, as well as providing significantly more flexibility for localised merchandising decisions.
The primary challenge for the digital software solution was to allow each store to have its own unique merchandising configuration, without requiring unique video assets to be developed each time a plan changed. Pixel Inspiration designed and created a data-driven software system that is able to dynamically position brand logos at the right place on the digital canvas, based on store-specific configurations. Brand placement can be managed through a simple data upload, or visually through the use of a Shelf layout user interface, allowing teams to instantly update which brands appear in each bay, without the need to create new digital content.
To complement the software solution, modular LED hardware was integrated into existing store fixtures using a bespoke mounting system designed by SDI. This approach avoided costly furniture replacements and allowed rapid, single night installation while creating a flexible platform that can be deployed across the entire The Perfume Shop retail estate.
